Female Labradors are considered to exhibit more independence in comparison to the male. Since the males show more affection you will spot it wants to follow you around a lot. The female is a bit more reserved but generally Labs are social dogs.
But I have noticed a trend among the labs I have worked with in rescue and amongst friends and family members and females tend to be a little more docile and affectionate IMHO. The thing that I love about males though is that they are SO full of life. Some males are very affectionate others are not and so on with females.
